Design Agencies

Author, Flash/Director Developer, Motion Designer, Sound Designer, Interaction Designer
Project Overview
A variety of projects from my early days as a developer in small design shops.

My Contributions
I was a "swiss army knife" -- a guy who could figure things out and contribute in a variety of ways to creative projects. Those were very fun days and I learned from some of the most talented designers in the world. People I continue to remain in close touch with to this day.
Mighty Assembly
Lead Developer/Partner
2000-2001
A young and small web design agency in the heady pre-bomb days. I provided flash development for our brash and entertaining portfolio site developed in 2001. Site garnered wide attention and numerous awards, and led to us being asked to write Macromedia Flash: Art, Design + Function for Osborne/McGraw Hill.

We wrote a book on flash-based website conception, design and development. Published by Osborne/McGraw Hill in 2002. Used as a textbook in design programs worldwide. I wrote chapters on flash development and sound design, contributed to chapters on interaction and motion design.

Partnered with my friend, the artist Yoshi Sodeoka on a series of web art projects and a music/video DVD.

"Internet Numbers Station" was a piece meant to evoke a shortwave numbers stations which were prevalent during the cold war. Piece was called "the new big thing" by Rhizome.org. View the project at Turbulence.org

"Noise-Driven Ambient Audio and Visuals" continued the artistic collaboration with Yoshi Sodeoka. This DVD was published by YouWorkForThem. From the notes: "A far cry from music videos, the pieces are more analogous to experimental, abstract film and video art. "

First hire at one of the earliest web design agencies in SF. A great group of people with whom I am still in touch and still work with from time to time even all these years later.

I was the "swiss army knife" in the studio, the guy who could figure things out and contribute in a variety of ways. I was (and still am) a good problem-solver, so I put that to good use on a variety of projects.

The visual aesthetic of these projects is extremely dated, but I'm still proud of them. "Fox Interactive Digital Press Kit" won a One Show Interactive Silver Pencil award, and the Fox Interactive website was featured in Communication Arts Digital Design Annual 5.
